Toddler Talk: Understanding God

During prayer time, Jasmine prayed that God would keep the spiders out of her room.

Us: You can pray to God any time and talk to Him…even in your room at night if you’re scared of the spiders.

J: He can hear me?

Us: Yes…he can see you too.

J: How does he see me?

Us: God is everywhere. You can't see Him, but He's here. He’s always been here. He was here from the very beginning. He’s here now and He always will be around.

J: Does God ever end? Will he ever go away like we do?

Us: No. He was there from the very beginning and He created all the people…including Mommy, Daddy, Jasmine, and Austin.

J: Is God like us?

Us: No, God is not like us…He sent His son Jesus who was like us. Jesus was both God and man. He was born, like we celebrate at Christmas. He died and rose again to be in Heaven, like we celebrate at Easter.

Us: Do you know who the first people were?

J: me…because I’m first (aka oldest).

Us: You’re the oldest kid in our family, but you’re not first. Mom & Dad were here before you. Nana & PaDaddy and Mimi and PaPa were here before us. AND way back…God was there…even before there were people. Who are the first people mentioned in the Bible? Remember Adam and Eve?

J: Yes.

Us: He created us…God created Adam & Eve…they were the first people.

J: How did He make them if they were never in a tummy?

Us: God made Adam out of the dirt and Eve out of a bone from Adam.

J: Oh

Us: Isn’t that cool?

J: Yep

(Meanwhile…Austin was chewing his fingernails.) ;)
